First trained at the Ericson Mediation Center in Minnesota in 1987, I practice in multiple mediation models, but still characterize my practice as client-centered mediation.  My primary practice is in the  area of divorce and custody mediations.  The physical office location near the UNI campus on the southwest side of Cedar Falls makes it easily accessible for mediation participants in  the Black Hawk County communities of Waterloo and Cedar Falls, as well as clients from near-by Bremer, Buchanan, Tama, Linn and Grundy Counties.

Mediation services include pre-filing mediations, post-filing mediations, and post-decree mediations.  Depending on the needs and preferences of the client and the particular case, sessions are conducted either with or without the attorneys present.

My mediation philosphy is very simple.  Talking resolves problems.  Silence intensifies problems.

Experience

Since my first mediation training in 1987 I have worked as a mediator with married and unmarried couples resolving custody and property issues, as well as families resolving family business disputes.  That mediation experience includes mediations conducted in conference and caucus sessions where attorneys have participated as well as mediations where the clients have participated without attorneys present.

Degrees

I have been awarded a B.A. with Honors in History, M.A., and J.D. with High Distinction, from the University of Iowa.

Mediation Training

My mediation training includes divorce mediation training from the Ericson Mediation Institute in Minneapolis Minnesota, the Iowa State Bar Association general and family law mediation trainings, and divorce and family mediation training from Steve Sovern of Cedar Rapids.  In addition I have participated in advanced workshops offered by the Iowa Association of Mediators including Mediation from the Heart presented by Michelle LaBaron, Journeys into the Heart of Conflict, presented by Kenneth Cloke, and Maximizing Mediation, presented by James Melamud.
