IAM Mediator’s Chautauqua: Don’t Have Sex With Mediation Participants and Other Ethical Dilemmas for Mediators !July 16, 2010

Conference will begin with the Board Meeting at 8:00 a.m. at the Joe Rosenfeld Center at Grinnell College. Committee Meetings will follow starting at 9:00 a.m. After a brief general meeting Chautauqua workshops will begin at 10:15. Meetings will conclude at 4:00 p.m. Our Chautauqua focus this year is Ethics. Attendance will meet the IAM ethics continuing education requirement for IAM certified mediators.
The morning session will focus on ethically developing your practice, including issues related to representation of expertise, branding, conflict checks, and advertising, including use of the IAM website listing.
The afternoon session starts with a panel presentation and discussion to focus on ethical issues in the practice of mediation including the relationship between the code of ethics of your profession of origin and the IAM code of ethics for mediators; ethical considerations in common mediation situations; and practical responses when mediation issues arise. A mock mediation “Mediating the Mediators” will take a look at our ethical obligation to support diversity and understanding of different points of view within the field of mediation.
